UNITED NATIONS Bottes Ugg Classic Cardy Sweater Haute 5819 Gris Acheter , Aug. 11 (Xinhua) --- Aid was reaching thousands of people fleeing armed groups in northern Iraq who were trapped on Mount Sinjar, but their situation was "absolutely dire," a spokesman for the UN humanitarian office said on Monday.

There were an estimated 1.2 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Iraq, 650 Bottes Ugg Classic Cardy Sweater Haute 5819 Noir Moins Cher ,000 since the latest crisis erupted in early June and at least another 200,000 this month, half of them children, Kieran Dwyer Bottes Ugg Classic Mini 5854 Noir Soldes , spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), spoke by telephone from Erbil in Kurdish-administered northern Iraq to reporters here.

He said 56 children have died in the past week and about 500 women and girls were abducted and being held in a Mosul prison, adding that the United Nations was supporting about 1,300 pregnant women among the IDPs.

There were published Bottes Ugg Classic Mini 5854 Camel Acheter , unconfirmed reports the captured women faced being sold or married off to single militants.

"We are in day nine of the crisis where people largely from the Yazidi community but other communities, fled to Mt. Sinjar in absolute fear of their lives," the spokesman said. "We have seen in this time that airdrops of food and water have been going on for some days now."

"We can confirm that the air drops of food and water are having a very important positive effect to reach some of the trapped people but the situation for people still on the mountain is absolutely dire," Dwyer said.

He described the mountain as about 100 kilometers long and about 10 kilometers wide.

"It's a very large area Bottes Ugg Classic Mini 5854 Gris France ," Dwyer said. "It's something of a camelback. It's largely rocky, barren hilltop and around the edge of the mountain there are crevices. People trapped on the mountain are absolutely exposed to the heat and it's searingly hot here. We 're talking (about) 45 (degrees) Celsius."

There were earlier reports of as many as 50,000 trapped on the mountain.

"People are trapped in multiple locations on the mountain and on the south side," he said En ligne Bottes Ugg Classic Basse 5825 Gris , explaining the southern flank is where the people "are mostly exposed to the armed groups."

Those militants were initially described as fighters for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) or the Islamic State of Syria and the Levant (ISIL) but in June declared they were establishing an "Islamic State (IS)" or a caliphate which included portions of northern Iraq and Syria.

"We can confirm that in the last 72 hours some thousands of people have been able to get off the mountain, escaping with the assistance of Kurdish security forces and others," Dwyer said. " Most escaped from the north side of the mountain which is near to the border with Syria. From there they move by foot, which is about a seven-hour walk à vendre Bottes Ugg Classic Basse 5825 Camel , but sometimes with the help of vehicles, to get to a point on the Tigris River back into Iraq."

The route down the north slop of the mountain takes them through Syria.

The displaced re-enter Iraq after crossing a pontoon bridge at a border crossing where they are met by "Kurdish regional authorities," the spokesman said, "They are moved quickly to where they can get some support. Thousands -- I mean we can't give a precise number Achetez Bottes Ugg Classic Basse 5825 Noir , but we do know that there are still, many, many people still trapped on the mountain."

"I just stress again that people coming off the mountain every single day are in much worse condition than the day before," Dwyer said. "It's extremely hot and they need urgent medical support and water and food."

He praised local communities in northern Iraq for helping the displaced and Saudi Arabia for donating 500 million U.S. dollars to aid the victims.

MELBOURNE, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- The 2017 Australian Open will be more accessible for tennis fans in Asia and the Pacific than ever before, tournament directors said on Monday.

"Independent tourism continues to increase and we want to make it easier than ever for our international fans to access the Australian Open," Tiley said.

"Our broadcast reach in the region continues to expand, with China and Japan among our biggest markets, and ongoing negotiations with a number of broadcasters.

"We are the most relatable of the Grand Slam events in this region. The time zone works for attracting viewers on television, and Australia is not that far away. Gone are the days when group yours were the only way people travelled to events.

"In this digital age you can access tickets to the Australian Open from anywhere in the world and create your own experience. This is a big target market for us and we are using a variety of platforms to reach it."
